Four Generations Of Legal Service

Located in Murfreesboro, Rucker & Rucker, P.C. is one of Tennessee's oldest law firms. Its roots stretch back to the late 1860s, when William S. McLemore opened a law practice in Williamson County. In the mid-1880's, Judge McLemore moved to Murfreesboro, where he formed McLemore & Richardson with his son-in-law, John E. Richardson.

John E. Richardson was later elected circuit court judge of Rutherford County. In 1934, he partnered with his grandson, John R. Rucker, Sr., to form Richardson & Rucker. By the 1970s, John Rucker, Sr., was joined at the firm by his sons, Richard W. Rucker and John R. Rucker, Jr.

In addition to his private practice, John Rucker, Sr., served the public as General Sessions Court judge in Rutherford County from 1948 to 1962, and as a state senator from 1977 to 1988. Richard Rucker continued the family tradition of public service when he served as judge of the Tennessee Claims Commission from 1985 to 1991.

Continuing The Tradition

Today, Rucker & Rucker, P.C. is led by John R. Rucker, Jr. and John R. Rucker, III, who joined the firm in 2007. Associate attorney J. Stephen Aymett, Jr. came to the firm in 2016.
